Privacy Policy
Famipride keeps family stories. This page explains what we store, who can see it, and how to get it back or delete it.
The short version
- We store the account details you give us and the memories, notes and messages you write.
- Private items are visible only to you. Family items are visible only to the members of your family. There is no public profile and no discovery page.
- We do not sell your data, we do not show advertising, and we do not embed third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the service — mainly a hosting provider and the push services built into your browser or phone.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask us to delete it at any time at [email protected].
1. Who we are
Famipride (the "Service", "we", "us") is an independent application for keeping family memories. This policy covers the Famipride web app at famipride.com, the Famipride iPhone app, and any companion device features that connect to the same account.
For the purposes of data protection law, we are the controller of the account and service data described below. You can reach us about anything in this policy at [email protected].
2. What we collect
2.1 Information you give us
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address and password | To create your account and sign you in. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash — we cannot read them. |
| Your display name and your family name | So the people in your family know who wrote something. |
| Memories, notes, reflections and family messages you write | This is the content of the Service. It is stored so it can be shown back to you and, when you choose to share it, to your family. |
| Photos, voice recordings and other attachments you choose to add | Stored with the item you attached them to. |
| Messages you send to our support inbox | To answer you and to keep a record of the request. |
You decide what to write. Please do not add information about other people unless you have the right to share it — see section 11 for the special case of children.
2.2 Information created automatically
- Account identifiers — an internal ID for your account and your family, and the time you joined.
- Push subscription data — if you turn on daily reminders, your browser or device gives us a push endpoint address and two encryption keys so notifications can be delivered. You can turn reminders off at any time and we delete the subscription.
- Device and browser information — the user-agent string sent with your request, used to send the right format of notification and to keep the Service working on your device.
- Technical logs — IP address, request time, requested path and response status, written by our web server. These are used for security, rate limiting and debugging an outage.
- Approximate location — inferred only from the IP address in server logs. We do not use GPS and we do not track your device location.
We do not use cookies for advertising or profiling. We use your browser storage only to keep you signed in and to cache the app for offline opening.
2.3 Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your contacts, your photo library as a whole, your health data, or your precise location.
- We do not buy data about you from data brokers.
- We do not track you across other websites or apps.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the Service: store your memories and show them back to you and to your family.
- To authenticate you and protect your account from unauthorised access.
- To send the daily morning and evening reminders you asked for.
- To answer your support requests and to fix defects.
- To keep the Service safe: detecting abuse, spam and attempts to break into accounts, and responding to unlawful content.
- To meet legal obligations, such as responding to a valid legal request.
We do not use your memories to train machine-learning models, and we do not use your content for advertising.
4. Who can see your content
- Private items — only you. This includes drafts, reflections, and pause sessions.
- Family items — every member of your family. Your family is exactly the set of accounts that have joined with your family invite code.
- Us — our administrators can technically access stored data to operate, back up and secure the Service, to investigate abuse, or to comply with the law. We do not browse family content for any other reason.
Think before you share. Once something is visible to your family, the other members may have seen or copied it. Deleting it removes it from Famipride, but we cannot undo what another person already read or saved.
5. Service providers
We share data only with the providers needed to run the Service. They may use it only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting provider (Vultr, United States) | All stored data, including your content | Runs the servers and database that hold the Service. |
| Certificate authority (Let us Encrypt) | Domain name only | Issues the TLS certificate that encrypts traffic to famipride.com. |
| Push services (Apple Push Notification service, and the push service of your browser vendor such as Mozilla or Google) | Push endpoint, notification title and text | Delivers the daily reminder to your device. |
| AI provider — only if a family turns AI assist on (currently Alibaba Cloud Model Studio) | The text or audio you submit to that feature | Produces the transcription or the suggested rewrite. See section 6. |
We may also disclose data when we are legally required to, or when it is necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or of the public. If we are ever acquired or merged, your data would transfer as part of that transaction and this policy would continue to apply until updated.
6. AI features
Some optional features use AI: turning a voice recording into text, and suggesting a clearer wording for something you wrote.
- These features only run on content you actively submit to them.
- When they run, the text or audio is sent to our AI provider so it can return a result. It is not sent anywhere else and is not used by us to train models.
- Suggestions are never saved over your original words. Your original text stays untouched and private, and you choose whether to use a suggestion.
- If AI features are not enabled for your family, no content ever leaves our own servers for this purpose.
7. Where your data is stored
The Service is hosted on servers located in the United States (Los Angeles, California). If you use Famipride from another country, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for that transfer, and you can contact us for details.
All traffic between your device and Famipride is encrypted with TLS.
8. How long we keep it
- Your content and account — for as long as your account exists. When you delete an item or your account, we remove it from the live database.
- Push subscriptions — until you turn reminders off, or until the push service tells us the endpoint is dead.
- Server logs — retained for a short operational period (normally no more than 30 days) and then discarded.
- Residual copies — deleted data may persist for a limited period in infrastructure backups and logs before it is overwritten.
- Records we must keep — we may retain the minimum needed to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
- correct data that is wrong;
- delete your data;
- object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent you previously gave;
- receive your content in a portable format;
- not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Write to [email protected] and we will act on your request. We may need to verify that the account is yours before we make a change. We aim to respond within 30 days.
You can also do several of these yourself in the app: edit or delete any memory you wrote, turn reminders off, and delete your account from the Me tab.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing are performance of our contract with you, your consent (for optional features such as reminders and AI assist), our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure and working, and compliance with law. If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
10. Security
We protect your data with TLS in transit, hashed passwords and hashed recovery codes, access controls that limit who can reach the database, and routine software updates. No online service can promise perfect security. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
Keep your password and recovery code to yourself. Anyone who has them can read your private memories.
11. Children and family content
Famipride is made for families, and a family story naturally involves children.
- Accounts are for adults. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to create a Famipride account.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, and children under 13 may not create accounts.
- If you are a parent or guardian, you may record memories that involve your child. You are responsible for deciding what is appropriate to store, and you can delete it at any time.
- We do not show advertising to anyone, and we do not use children’s data for advertising or profiling.
- If you believe a child has created an account or that a child’s information was added without consent, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete the account and the related content.
12. Other websites
The Service may link to sites we do not run. Their privacy practices are their own, and this policy does not cover them.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant — for example a new category of data or a new provider — we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Famipride after a change means you accept the updated policy.
